Cockroaches & Cockroach Control

Identify the cockroach pest species -
tips on safer, more effective control methods

Pest Status & Habitat:
Cockroaches are known carriers of serious diseases, including salmonella, dysentery, gastroenteritis and various stomach complaint organisms.

Cockroach eggs most often enter domestic and commercial premises in food and other packaging.

Cockroaches are nocturnal feeders, which breed and rest during daylight hours in dark warm places, such as, in the roof void, cracks and crevices in the kitchen and bathroom, inside the wall cavities, electrical appliances and foodstuffs.

Although sanitation and hygiene is important, even the cleanest of premises are infested by cockroaches due to minute deposits of grease, sugar and other food deposits being left in difficult to get at places, such as, in drains and cracks and crevices in kitchen cupboards.

Cockroach Pest Control

We recommend the use of a synthetic pyrethroid (permethrin) dust inside roof voids and under floors. The permethrin dust is modelled on the natural extract of pyrethrum flower and is less toxic than common salt but deadly for cockroaches. In dry dark areas this insecticide remains effective long enough to break the cockroach life cycle.

Recently a cockroach gel-bait of low toxicity has been introduced onto the Australian market. Placed in cockroach habitat areas away from human contact, with no need to empty kitchen cupboards, this gel-bait is highly attractive to cockroaches and provides effective control, usually for many months.

Expect to pay around $135 to $195, average size kitchen, usually with a 3 month service warranty. Commercial premises upon site inspection and quotation.

There are 6 problem pest species, prevalent in most domestic and commercial premises. The identification of the species, is essential to determine their nesting locations, and where it is best to use insecticide sprays, dusts and baits, to gain safe effective control.
